I'm seeing 17" PowerBooks for sale on ebay for $999.

How can this be? I want to buy one but there's gotta be a catch. How can someone possibly make a profit?

if they were free you could make a profit

Interesting, considering my $3900 powerbook came this week. That was with tax and an extra 500 megabytes of ram.

they're probably making a $999 profit.

"See Payment Instructions and item description, or contact seller for more information."
hint of suspicion #1.

none of those are valid auctions because they're a scam.
Check out http://powerbookcentral.com to read some stories about people getting royally scammed from auctions on ebay because the seller said that they only accept western union... bad idea... too good to be true.
people just want to believe so much that they're willing to toss out common sense if a "deal" is dangling in front of them.
