I just received an AI file from a client that has a bunch of titles that were all converted to outline. I should be able to drag a box around each title and select it and then copy it to a new document. For some strange reason this isn't working and I have to individually shift + click to select a title. None of the layers are locked anymore so I'm really not sure what the issue is. Anybody have any suggestions.
Illustrator 9 / pc for the record.

what happens if you hit Ctrl + A
?

Absolutely nothing... in fact the only way to select is letter for letter.
I've never seen this before... Ever. It's the most fucked up Illustrator file I've ever had the privilage of working with.

i know in 10 you can select something, then go Select > by Same > Stroke Color/Weight/etc.
i cant remember if this is in 9 too
or maybe theres some stupid box around everything that you're clicking on when you think you're clicking on nothing... try zooming all the way out to check that.
hope i help

sorry to say it, but i am stumped.
can you export as an eps and try it again?

or try importing the file into a new doc instead of just opening it.

that little padlock icon isn't on the layer is it?
Also, hit crtrl+alt+2 to "unlock" all and try again

MR_T comes up with winning answer.... Un-lock all.
You're my new hero... thanks so much.

but how were you able to select them at all?
that is absolutely fucked up in itself.
