hey guys. my question is this:
up until this point, i have always pulled in my own freelance gigs. from coldcall to bill collection.
now, a salesgirl from work just handed me a side gig. not a lot of money, probably about $500.
she is doing this for free because she and i are friends, but i would like to give her a standard percentage.
i am thinking 15% of the total deal. this will also push her to ask for more money. heheh. ye yea yea.what i wanna know then:
is 15% a reasonable percentage to give her for bringing me in a job that i would have never gotten otherwise?if this turns out well, then we might be doing more business together.
thanks for any advice guys!!!

15% is a decent finders fee. If she handles client services in addition to hooking up the job you should consider doubling that percentage.

hey Bio,
i dont know if I would give such a percentage, but if you feel confortable, do it man.
just an idea, but maybe you could come up with some kind of flat fee per $dollar interval, for example... every $100, they get $10...every $500, they get $50, etc...
the tough tthing with having a salesperson, especially if they are not designers, they sometimes offer clients and prospects "false hopes" and dont have the $$ pricing structure thing down realistically.
good luck!

do you really think 30% is good?
that can get to be a lot of cash.
she will be handling all the client transaction.if you guys all thnk that 30 is fair to her, then i will do that.
anyone else got an opinion?

slaz, thanks man. it is a good idea, but i think the percentage thing will have to work since most of the jobs would be fairly small. i wouldnt want her to feel i am taking advantage of her EVEN THOUGH she did this just to help me out.
she knows what i can and cant do since we work together every day in the office.

You make it worth her while, she could produce a lot of jobs for you. I don't know about you, but I don't ahve time to fish for freelance jobs, so I'm willing to pay a producer to handle all the client relations.

15% is good
a percentage is choice over a flat fee, because it will inspire your salesperson to hunt out the bigger jobs
I've experimented with this sort of arrangement a couple of times, and it's crucial that the salesperson knows what they're talking about... make sure they know what you're capable of, and get a CONTRACT so there's no confusion in the future
you need to work out residual commissions... if they land you a logo job, then you take over client relations, and the same client comes back with a website gig, do you pay commission? I say yes, but you need to work it out before hand

just give her your Bio Cutout doll! It's worth more than cash
- Bio0
hahaaa. she sees the cut-out doll every day. it hangs up in the office looking on approvingly.
this is kinda all under the table right now and if we do work together more, then we might move up to a contract, but right now, it will just work out that i give her a percentage of the check for this job.
she will be giving my standard contract to the client for them to sign.
i dont mind giving her a nice chunk of what i make from this, but i dont want to feel like i stiffed her (although she is pretty cute) haha.

you can take her out to a nice dinner + theatre to show your appreciation.
If she's a nice person/friend, she probably won't want to take your money anyway.
- Bio0
she is a nice person, but she is also a http://woman , so she will take the money. heheh.

damn, what happened to all the nice girls!

15% for jobs under 2K
10% for jobs over 2KJust watch out she doesn't keep charging $1999 so she gets more cut ;) hehe
- Bio0
cool.
then 15% sounds good.
of course i will round up on everything though. because i am a farily nice kid.
