Just finished a site for a photographer:
http://www.peter-howard.com
Please have a look and let me know how it looks/performs on your machine. I'm having some trouble with the rollovers sticking on mac OSX. Your help is much appreciated

nice site!
I'm also having problems on OSX with the rollovers - they dont revert unless you mouse out really slow - do you have an invisible button outside the button to send it back to 'up'?
same on IE5.2 and safari.

i'm on a powerbook running os x and have no problems with the rollovers in IE or Safari. i think the site looks nice. your paintings are very beautiful as well.
i am also in the process of building a similar site (flash, for a photographer) and was wondering how much time it took you and how much you charged for it? i understand if you aren't comfortable posting your rates, so you can email if you'd like. thanks.

really accordsing to website developement mac can suck soooo badly! + safari is the more talented browser on mac
- lefton0
i dunno about that luke - while safari can outperform IE in certain areas (speed) sometimes, IE is def. still the more standards compliant browser. i've done a few sites on my mac, and it doesn't suck. sometimes little things come up here and there, but the ability to not work on a winblows machine is well worth it ;)

thanks for the input. To answer your question, lefton: It took a good deal of time to create the slideshows, mostly becuase I'm not an expert scripter and had to do a lot of work to get the fade in /fade out effect to work right. I live in Baltimore and it's pretty hard to get work here so I charge a lot less than you could probably get elsewhere. This site I charged $1,500 for, which is way low, but the guy probably wouldn't have paid any more than that and I needed the work.

thanks for your reply. i'm not what you would call an expert scripter either ;) so my actionscripting takes longer than the average bear . . but even taking that into consideration, how long did the site take you? if you don't mind my asking.
interesting about the fee, as my client wanted to pay half that. of course. hah.
i just moved from outside of dc to richmond . . went to bmore every now and then for the occasional show (ottobar sucks) and you have mr. mike young in the area . . picked up 'one' yet?
thanks again.

I'd say it took about 90 - 110 hrs. So much time is spent on image sizing and optimization, and then on the scripting. The actual building of the site after all that was done took less than a week.
I've done a few photographer sites in flash and wouldn't charge any less than $1,200 even for a simple one.
What do you mean by "picked up 'one' yet?"
- lefton0
ok. thanks again for your estimates, etc. i really appreciate it! hopefully i can explain the quote to my client who wants to pay $500 for the whole site. sigh.
pick up 'one' :

ahh. 'One'. I'll definitely order a copy. Thanks and good luck.
Anyone else see anything screwy on their browser/machine?
- lefton0
enjoy.

It's a little thing, but maybe have the rollovers (ie. html links) change colour when you hover and / or click on them?
And maybe crank up the frame rate on the Flash a bit? It might make it a little more 'snappy'.
Otherwise it's pretty good.

I just tested it on safari and it worked fine except the subpage didn't center itself in the window. It hung out at the top.
Any windows users?
