fdisked this morning.. now I'm sitting here waiting for the service pack to install, then I have to install all my programs...
Everyone in my office had to fdisk within the last month. I guess we've had xp machines for about 10 months or so. xp seems to slow way way down after a while... anyone else encounter this?

yeah, all my machines have always slowed down after a couple months...weird, cause it's not platform independant. Happened on my mac and on win2k and XP.
i'm almost due to reformat my lappy... i haven't been able to network with other machines for months, and my wireless card got screwy after i installed it for both PCMCIA slots...
sucks huh?

I'd say it's a combination of all kinds of things, small apps running in the background, the registry size increases (I've heard this can slow it down)...

I'm running a win2K box and it's the longest I've lasted without a re-format.
Almost 2 years - a new record for me ;)
I havn't installed much crap which I guess is the key.

jox is right on.. xp is actaully the best wit hthis than all previous versions..
it's not all necessarily MS, but a lot of times the installers and software prgos. The ununstalls do a hoorible job of cleaning up after themselves and eventaully you have an over bloated registry and all types of background apps either couding your drive or worse running in the bg.
To make it last longer, it's good to look into registry cleaners, defragmenting, spyware killers (the new drain on resources), and the like...
Yuo'll still have to reinstall eventauly, but it might be 2wice a year instead of 5 times a year.
