that's why you sould always lowlevel format your drive before installing anything.
maxllf is a good utility for this. it's maxtors lowlevel format tool...
after you lowlevel a drive it has to re-initialize, like it was brand new out of the box. it removes all of those pesky files that you thought were deleted.
also don't upgrade....if you want a new os, back up your data and then go from scract - completely from scratc, fdisk, lowlevel, install...
nearly all installations handle partitioning and formating during setup process now, so there isn't a need to do any of that before hand.

Change to Win2000professional, Xp not very trustable...and sexypixel is right, backup is very important no matter what OS you have

winxppro is the exact same thing as 2k pro with added user friendly features, thats all.
it still uses the same NT kernel, and is quite stable.

Beleive me, I've learnt to back up. It is really important. Thanks for the help dudes.
I've found XP reliable, but it is a windows os after all so now and then there are gonna be problems.

I hate XP(pro). I was cruising along with 2k just fine and ever since the switch to XP i've been fraught with problems, usually just little things, but just strange things that seldom repeat themselves in the same way. I find XP to be far more unpredictable than 2k

I agree that xp pro has a few problems, but the additions make it worth it. I used 2kpro for a two years and am now on xp pro, a few little glitches but if your tweek a few things here and there it can run like a dream

I've been using XP Pro for a year with no problems, has'nt even crashed yet. The most stable OS i've used so far, i don't know where your getting this 'not very trustable (?)' from.

but, most 'little glitches' can be fixed if you know what you're doing.
xp runs stable and smooth with a few simple registry hacks and add ons like the ms power tools and some 3rd party utilities.
no, and i mean no, operating system straight out of the box works right, save how you want/need it to run.
my os usage is split around 70% linux 29% windows and 1% mac (osx). and, it took good near 2 months to get all of those systems running smoothing and the way i wanted them to run.
computers are not passive objects you just plug in and use - despite what the manufacturers say. you have to know how to use it first.
:)

true that....
manufacturers, they are a joke.
I think some people had problems when they were running previous windows os, formatted, and then installed xp pro than buying a new system with xp pro.
