so, i'm right now on a crossroads, where i can choose if i want to continue my university education or not. in fact, i was at the same crossroads a year ago. i have never studied art or something in connection with it. one year of psychology and now one year of PR. most of these two years i have actually been working. i have almost decided to take a break for a year and then (maybe) start with product or graphical design.

so, my question is, what's the connection in your country between education (degree) and experience (cv, portfolio)? in estonia, it is possible to live (and get work) without a degree. it's even possible to be on a leading position in a leading company. but what if i want to get work in some other country? is it possible?

It helps to have a degree.

Higher education is only a good idea if you value it and appreciate it. I wouldn't go unless you're getting something out of it. I graduated four years ago and I still take courses in addition to working 50 hours minimum a week. I enjoy design in the academic world as much as the commerical world.

Definitely go for the degree, it just opens up more doors for you on many levels you might not even be aware of.

well, there is also something else you have to know about our education system. i don't value it so much ;) most of those have finished PR, for example, are too stuck in the views of the Great PR Minds and do everything as they were told to do. and mostly what they have learned does not apply to real world at all.

on the other hand, i have been to some lectures in the two foremost art schools in estonia. when they are learning something which has "digital" or "multimedia" in its title, then i can be as sure as hell that i know twice as much now, as will they, when they finish. and once again i have notice that the school builds a "box" around their thinking.

so this is why i'm not so sure i want to have a degree.
