Yep, is anyone really getting into InDesign? don´t u reckon is handier than quark? do u think it´ll more used than quark?
- BonSeff0
no. quark will never die. its like the design cockroach.

quark´s interface is as ugly as an asshole´s cow... InDesign is nice if u´re used to work with photshop and illustrator. And, well, is easier to export illustrator files into InDesign, quark is gonna die, GONNA DIE, YEAH,

when I request quotes, i tell printers they need indesign.
if they tell me to export to eps or to use quark, i threaten to find another printer.
i'll never touch quark again.

search PV-AN for threads on this, there are a tonne of them.

i love InDesign, but so far, i'm still liking 1.5 better than 2.0

right now indesign has me but quark 6 is looking alot less sterile and boring then previous versions and has alot of different aspects it didnt have before.indesign for now but definitely interested in what quark 6 (final) is going to offer.

lyrek, you are quite lucky to be able to threaten printers and to expect them to have InDesign.... :)
The older generation (and those have the big names, experiences AND clients) threaten you with Quark. It sucks not to be able to open some really important files which were created in Quark. InDesign cannot handle them (well, at least in my short experience)......Have never SEEN Quark. But I do like ID.

Quark is a fantastic piece of software...for 1993, when they stopped evolving.
InDesign is far superior in almost every way. Ever try to export a PDF? Do it in one step. The whole program is as smooth as Illustrator.
The only problem is that printers don't like it because it still doesn't adhere to color standards. I don't exactly know what that means, but when they fix it, Quark will die.

congratulations lyrek , shit, u can threaten printers, are u a kind of egipcian god or something? I reckon that Macromedia´ll be the package for multimedia and adobe is gonnna focused more in developing packages for printing. And, well, quark will go to hellllll. Yeah, is ugly, slownly and exporting is a real pain in the assssssss.

I prefer InDesign as it's easier to work with for me, being a Photoshop/Illustrator user for so long. It just integrates better. I believe Quark will be around for quite some time still though.

Quark = Industry standard
InDesign = Threat to old stubborn designers and teachers.

I absolutely agree with u, oeuf. I worked once in a GD company in which the art director did fucking everything with quark, and, well, the results were quite shitty, he used illustrator 7 as well. No need to say that when he saw me using freehand or illustrator 9 he got quite pissed. I left in 3 weeks...

I hate how InD flattens my Ill eps'.
I hate how quark can't inport .ai files

I think oeuf got it right. More on this at Typographica: http://typographi.ca/000563.php

yea, Popovich, guess I am a bit spoiled. but NYC is (or used to be) the printing capital of the world (according to locals anyway). So I can afford to be choosy.
Besides, to quote Lawnmower Man, production management is a designer's dreamland. "I am god here!"
(even though all the good presses were made in your neck-o-the-schwartzwalder)
