any ideas why connecting my powerbook to my tv via s-video > composite > scart produces a black and white display?
i'm in england by the way. do i need to buy a new telly?
or any suggestions on good black and white films? (saw pi at the weekend)

try changing your resolution.
I have never been able to get my ibook to show anything but fuzzy lines... though I think I was using composite.. bah one day I'll get round to it.

Do you have two scart connections? My Loewe has two and only one works for my powerbook.
If your TV is really old it's probable not able to show NTSC video. You can set the signal to PAL in the monitor settings for your TV :)

cheers for the suggestions.
i did try messing about with the resolutions and PAL/NTSC stuff for ages, but i was wrecked at the time.

i know.
I went through the wole palava about 3 months ago. I bought a mass of cables and adapters but all you need is—•s-video to composite cable converter that comes with your P.Book,
•a jack stereo to left and right
(the jack goes into your P.B.)•a TV with video, left & right in composite inputs.
•turn your tv to AV1 or 2, then on your P.book go to monitors and detect screens. (This was where i was going wrong and kept on poping out to buy different cables all the time!)
that should do it.

nice one v3nt!
i shall try the detect screens thing. know what you mean about cables. i even managed to bastardise a scart > scart cable into a composite to scart (though it didn't work).
cheers for the advice.

i noticed that 'detect screens' thing the other day and have been meaning to try it. Maybe I can make the £45 I spent on cables almost worthwhile.

I know I know!
One of the pins in the s-video cable is fuct check your composit connection first. if you get color then you know it is the s-video cable.
I took digital video in art school and a lot of the s-video cables were broken the B/W thing was common.
