I would love one, but hey, at nearly £1700 for a box (no monitor), they're taking the piss arn't they?

think about this - i know people in graphics design that are still using macs that are 7 or 8 years old - how? because they are built that way. i'd like to see pc do that. you pay for what you get brother!

Many companies make IBM standard machines, therefore competition drives prices down.
Apple make apple kit.
Therefore, you guessed it. Doesn't stop it from being absolutely gorgeous and lustworthy though.

Im quite sure they arent having a very good time with those old machines tho.

I nearly bought a g4 tower about a month ago, but bottled it and bought a PC instead cos it was half the money.

Its true they have really good longevity...mind you it could just be poeple hanging on to them cause they are so damn expensive.
But flash still sucks the big one on a mac, even with OSX

I can attest. I have a Mac 7600 I bought in '96 and I've upgraded the sht out of it and it works pretty well...of course its not my main design machine but it was until January of this year.
- MR_T0
But do you use any other machine to compare it to...more importantly..any other platform?
- unknown0
I use flash on osx and it works PERFECT!, it's amazing..
you need to reinstall that is all

I think it boils down to Apple having a different business model. THey want to appear as being the "elite" - aimed at people with more money... say way BMW appeals to the upper class.
If they were the same price as PCs, they would have to sell twice as many to make the same profit, which is something they're probably not comfortable aiming for because they just don't have that big a market share.

it may be "Pefect" on a mac..but Flash sizzles on a PC..lightening fast. SWF exports are so mch quicker its unbelievable.
Anyway, thats beside the point as I dont use Flash all the time

pull out a dell on the train and people think geek, pull out a powerbook on the train and bitches are dripping all over you, they literally cant get their panties down quick enough - no shit.
And if you're on the plane you can get into some serious midget type shit. If thats your bag.
- arlo0
They're expensive because Apple needs to fund its designs for the next 3 powerbooks.
- MR_T0
cant get them down quick enough eh?

Apple Computers may still be slightly more for a similar grade computer in the pc relm.
I think the reason is mult-fold.
I am not going to give them all, but if you compare and iBook to similar price compaq, hp or toshiba, then you are either paying less or getting more.
To buy a pc notebook that compares to a Powerbook, you will find a vary similar price and yet I do not think your pc be able to make dvds.
On top of all of this, the iLife software is worth quite a number of dollars, that you wouls spend on the pc just trying to get back to par.
If you want a cheap computer, buy a pc.
If you want a good computer, buy a Apple.

"If you want a cheap computer, buy a pc.
If you want a good computer, buy a Apple."Thanks bob, i'll probably quote this again to any Mac vs Pc thread in the possible future.

I didnt want this to be a flame war between PC and Mac..but some poeple just can't hekpo getting on their high and mighty apple horse can they?
Sheesh, most poeple pirate software anyway..so its not like that is an issue. And in terms of spec, top PC shit all over the top of the range mac.
But I dont care about that. All i care about it why they are so expensive
- mrming0
Lets use the 'search' before this one gets out of control folks!
- MR_T0
yeah..sorry. Didnt mean this to turn out in a flame war. I want a mac, and was inflamed by their price...thats all.
Vented it here for no reason.
