I just joined it. ha!
Got myself a jobby job. in SF no less. Now the hard part is to not blow off my new fortune in video games and burritos.

Congrats.
My friend and I had a discussion over pints the other night about how Programmers/Developers and Designers have become the new blue collar class.
:)
We work and work and work with little reward now and smaller paychecks...plus, there are soooo many people in this industry now.
It was an interesting conversation.

sp and mrdobolina...
what the hell are you talking about. The average income is around $20k to $25k. Not many programmers/developers/designers get that. From what I know, the majority start at around $30 and up. That is $15. Most start at $20 and I have had nothing but luck with my lowest paying at $28. Other I know experience the same.
I think we all just need to stop complaining. If you are doing what you love, consider your self lucky. Most "blue collar" workers are getting $16 and under with the majority at aroun $13 and they are NOT doing what they love. Sitting in an office develooing sites, designer brochures and building new brand id's is not blue collar.
I always here designer, developers and everyone else complain about our industry. why is everyone so negative? If you don't like it anymore, get out. If you are real about it, you can't say it is blue collar work.
i just don't understand.
FRESH!

Congrats dood. Do you have a Chipotle where you live? If you do, I suggest that you move to a place near to the damn restaurant. Best burritos EVAR!

Actually, I never complained, and I never said it was a bad thing. The assumption that being blue collar is hated and bad is an unfair one.
My father was an auto mechanic for like 20 years and a contractor for 15. He never once hated what he did, and neither did I.
I am happy to be a programmer and project manager...and probably wouldn't trade it for any other job.
:)
Oh, and depending on where you live, salaries go up and down from there.

I live a few miles away from a chipotle. actually I go there so often now I got two free burritos from them...

I eat at Chipotle almost everyday now. The dood there gives me a free drink each time. But your free burrito deal is much better than mine :)

On Halloween, if you wrapp your self up in tin-foil, like one of their products, you get free lunch.
I love their food.

not much of a deal... just got lucky a few times. once was a free burrito night that no one told me about. the other I waited 10 minutes for a steak burrito and they just gave it free to me.
