Why is trendy an insult?
I mean what's the difference between trendy and original or fresh(other than marketing)?
I mean I hate the mtv-generation as much as the next elitist but I enjoy originality which is all trendy is as far as I can see, the only difference is how it marketed?

Trendy is the poor cousin of style, what style leaves behind becomes trendy I guess therefore 2nd hand and unoriginal.

eloquent.
is style genetic or can you take classes?

I see "trendy" as literally "following trends" meaning that while it may fulfill the current perception of "what looks good", it probably has little or no merit that it didn't borrow from somewhere else. It is a carbon copy, a clone, destined to be urinated upon, by me, from a great height.

Trendy derives from "trend" -
- The general direction in which something tends to moveIf something is in the genral direction it can't really be original now can it?

being trendy is a choice, original and innovative is not.
in any realm.

I think style is one persons twist on what is available. Like punk rock in the 70's UK was trying to be anti-fashion but ended up being the ultimate in undividual style.
People using kettles as handbags and tampons as earings etc...

Could the difference be explained through a things popularity?
Ultimately I see the current trend in society to be anti-trendy. And I wonder if anyone else sees this?

All good things come to a trend.

A stylish person is doomed to set a trend.

Ninja's are trendy. But I love'em.
I mean who doesn't enjoy the sleek supercool ninja?
And they wear all black and often have long hair.

Good point prov. Being trendy is only following inherent cultural ideologies, so really, the less trendy you are the cooler/more dappa you are.

in my opinion, every designer at one point or another follows trends. EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DONE. how often do you see something truely original.
- providence0
That's it then
trend setter = has style
trend follower = wants style

i like bears, but dancing bears are really cool.
talking bears are a future invention of style in performance art. i bet gypsies will do that.
gypsies=trend setters
if evolution doesn't overtake them in a freak accident.

Have you ever seen that vid of the bear that beats up the fisherman by the river?
Ninja Bears are the pinnacle of rad.
Speaking of dancing ninjas--anyone intereseted in a very original movie about 7 ninja, dancing, sining lumberjacks?

Style is the leopard, fashion is the Hyena and trendy is the antelope..

The relationship is the important thing right.
So people's relationship with style could be described as wolflike, do-ers, free spirits.
And people's relationship with trendy as sheeplike, Ayn Rand's general world theme.
And who wants to be a sheep right?

antelope's are pretty cool. they're harmless too, and thus i think there's a flaw in the antelope analogy.
- Mal0
the antelope gets taken down by the leopard in turn the hyena scavanges the left overs. Could be a zebra mind you.

wouldnt/shouldnt it be the trendy animals feeding off the scraps of the stylish?
