what part of brooklyn is that from? i've been reading the recent news about the building/memorial decision, but nobody has been able to project when it will be complete. actually, i don't think they even know how exactly it's going to be funded.
were you just guessing 2010?
other buildings i'm looking forward to it the new MOMA in 2005, and the eyebeam building in chelsae. those should be pretty neato.

I like the original better

The picture is taken from the corner of 12th Street and 6th Ave. in Manhattan, looking due South.
I like the original better, but isn't it about time NYC had the tallest building in the world?

I used to work on Ave. of Americas (6th) and 10th Street and could see part of the right tower. Got let go after that attack, still pissed about it. Fuck terrorists and people who kill my friends.

Jazx,
Where did you work, the library? check this out:http://www.talesfromthehead.com/…
Drag the circle around to reveal 2001 from the same angle.
I get the feeling that a larger photograph and a better masking job on the building would do this design more justice. I just slapped that thing together to have some fun.

The originals became a symbol of NY, and significant in that sense, but as architecture they were terrible. Both in design and in function. If you are interested in reading the details about it and the competition read the recent Architecture Record.
It will not be the tallest building in the world. The Sky Garden has already been compromised (thank the money hungry developers, Mayor, etc.). I am sure there will be much more value engineering before it is completed. These are the joyous realities of architecture.
If you look at the skyline rendering for Libeskind's design, it is the complimentary to the NYC's existing skyline. Many of the others created a monolith along the lines of the original (far better looking - at least Foster's was- but too tall).
