What's your thoughts on renaming the tags like
[IMAGE:15]
[ARTICLE:43]
to
[IMAGE:NAKED_GIRL] [ARTICLE:IRAQ]?The benefit it is easier to read for the editor, but it poses a small problem. I need to either remove whitespaces and invalid characters from the title and not allow editing OR put in a short XML name that never changes.
Is it worth the effort? I need to do it now, because it will cause a conversion nightmare later. Now or never... basically.
anybody know hwts the best way to do it

You can't. XML syntax is very strict.
You defeat the purpose of using a well-formed language like XML if you don't use it correctly.
Colons especially, since they reserved characters within XML name spacing.
And, as an XML developer, I don't find those easier to read.

That is easy to read.

Besides using XML correctly, you have created a easy to interpret, well-formed document that both human and machine/application a like will understand clearly.
This is why XML is so powerful.

or you could user the [annotaion] element to help editors/content producers better understand your schema.
