The first impression I got is they look clumsy , and I feel they need to be more bold and iconic, and a lot more simple.

This is a great logo / identity resource as posted on K10K news - http://www.identityworks.com/

they look like antenna than anything relates to "Saint" to me...
how about a pure halo for some minimal feeling?

Always remember:
K.I.S.S =)I agree with phubar here... They do feel a bit clumsy. It would also be nice if you told us a bit more of the idea & concept behind it... What is it for?
How about just _one_ pair of wings?
Any typography to go with it?

sigh, I guess some people aren't meant to be logo designers. . .
I have no typography to go with it either.
Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the honest crits.

heh SAINT, dont take it to heart, practice makes perfect. Generally when I work on a logo job I design at least 50 ideas and then narrow it down to the best few.... just keep at it, and seek inspiration...

Hey...
It doesnt mean your not supposed to do logos man =)Take your original thought and work on it. Im sure it will turn up well. Keep it up!
I´ve made quite a few logos & corporate id´s and far from all of them look good =)
Try to make an even more simplified symbol and put it in context... Try combining it with some typography (no you dont have to draw your own typefaces)
Sometimes a symbol is enough sometimes the typo is strong to stand on its own... Just keep experimenting.

I liked the idea of just a halo. Try putting it centered above the text, and set the text in Caslon or something. Might turn out nice.

see the original halo down the bottom left? and the type...
personally id work with just those elements. id develop the type to be more considered [probably a similar font to be honest at fisrt, but try out others, serifs wouldnt be TOO bad, considering 'saints' go way back]
and then the halo shape too, maybe its nearly there, maybe its not. try it out, consider the options, choose what works, combine them together, look at what youve done critically and keep doing it till you think youre pleased.. it doesnt have to take forever to do, but you will prob have to take a while to belive youve come up with the right soloution. [at that time anyway]
ps:
logo simplicity beats logo buggery everytime.
pps:
god what a lot of waffle

Reaction to logos:
I would say the one that shows the most promise is style 2a. I think that there is a rough, cut up approach in style that could be refined a bit.
You might consider another approach to this and move away from "typical" imagery that would normally be associated with saints, angels, etc. This sometimes proves helpful in coming up with an original mark that is uniquely yours.
And as far as logo design goes:
I have created many a logo that has gone through revision after revision and stage after stage.
It is not an exact science. Every mark offers up its own unique problems that need to be solved.
But some of the best advice I ever heard about logo design is this:
"It must work in black and white first and the simplest solution is sometimes the best solution."
Hope this helps. Keep rockin' on them. You'll get it.

I would avoid the halo, it seems to obvious.
However some other biblical reference would be nice.
make it cleaver.
Good Luck

I always sketch out my ideas on paper first. I even go as far as not touching my computer(except for reading emails). Makes my decision process easier, plus I don't have to waste time 'designing' 50 different logos. definetly give yourself options but think simple.

I agree. I always sketch first and never for at least two hours think about good or bad ideas, just try to create ideas and get the energy flowing. Then go back and see what I have. Logos really test your creative process.
Take heart it is a skill that can be learned. I used to suck at logos now I don't so much.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
It is a rushed design, but it is tough since I have been thinking about ideas for about 3 weeks now and nothing. I just have to spend some more time with it.
And for meaning, this is not meant to be a biblical thing. "Saint", as I am meaning it, is meant to be more of a superman meaning. Saint as in the old TV. Do gooder instead of the more typical meaning of the Saint.

Why shouldn't he go for the halo? Sometimes the obvious is more than good enough in logo design (in my opinion, anyways).

Sadly, Saint, these people have built a great logo based on the same concept:

The first set reminds me of that medical ensignia. Then it took me into the realm of menoras and coat racks. The second set made me think of a garden sprinkler and bicycle handle bars. The current design is on the right track as far as the point you're trying to make. Continue playing with the wings and halo elements. Perhaps something a bit more fluid and less angular. The page as a whole is pretty cool though. I find the evolution of your ideas pretty interesting.

one of my professor's used to talk about digging deeper to find the best solution to any project, like identity studies. the first idea or concept you have might be leading you toward the right direction, but seldom does it work. take steps to build off your initial idea and search for a truly unique visual way to communicate.
you want the logo to speak for itself, to be obvious, but be unconventional graphically.
