Do cats like this (http://www.arthurmount.com/) trace images? Do they take their own photos or just pull sh*t off the web?
Or is this just staight-up vector illustration? I mean, even painters use photographs for reference, but where do you draw the line between reproduction and art?

He renders photographs & hand illustrations, I imagine.
I'm so excited about his new work! Gives me some push to do my new site, too. God, what a slacker I've been.

I normally work from photos as reference, many illustrators do. I take my own photos, take stuff off the web, and clients give me photos from various sources.
I wouldn't call it reproduction. You could call it interpretation. I "hand-draw" everything digitally, one vector at a time. I don't use any filters or shortcuts. I'm using a tool like any other.
Where do you draw the line between reproduction and art? I didn't know there was one.

hey brooke. I have a picture I would like for you to render. It has a nice "spacy" feel to it. I will pay you $458674598 for your services. Are you interested?

Hey Brooke, how've you been?

Hey Arty. Left your wife yet for me?
Just kidding.
I'm super. Getting lots of work. Having lots of plans. Freaking great work on your new site.

L.I.S.: Will I be referencing from a photo? I <3 themed illustrations.
Let's get together & see what we can do.

Thanks. I've been wanting to get the new stuff up for awhile. There's more to come too.
Big thanks to Piperboy for all his help.

Yes, definitely from a photo. A friend just sent me a photo of bazookas. And I would like these bazookas to be rendered and appear to be in space. I want to call it "Space Bazookas".

Bazooka gum is the best. I sent 10 comics away for the free tshirt once & never got anything. I'm thinking of suing.

We can make "Space Bazookas" into a T-shirt too. Then you can get as many printed as you'd like.

Cool. I do it pretty much the same way too. I wasn't criticizing or anything, merely trying to understand how the process goes for everyone.
I just know it would take some serious talent to reference a photograph instead of trace over one, not that it matters really as the end result is what's important.
Reason I'm curious if that I used to watch my father paint while looking at a photograph and that's a whole lot different than tracing over an image, which is what lazy arses like me do. Requires a lot more skill and puts you on a different level of accomplishment.
I think your work is really stunning Arthur. Glad you responded.

Oh sorry, you too Brooke!
