Anybody know how to script pages for web-enabled cell phones like i-mode?
- ershinn0
Anybody at know of this?
Is it JavaApplet only?

i-mode is unlikely to succeed outside Japan. Docomo does not have the resources it needs to push the platform on other continents. I see you're in Japan so I guess the best resources can be found over there.
hint: I think KPN (going broke?) is the only european company pushing i-mode. They might have some resources available in English.

Hey ershinn, quick question.
Do you find the word 'Jap' racist? See Jap thread...

blend, Eplus in Germany makes efforts to push i-mode here. I am getting my new Toshiba i-mode enabled cell in 5 days. heh :)

ok popovich,
Once you get it, please tell us how you like the service.
What are the main differences between wap/xml-content + java mlets and i-mode functionality? interoperable applications would surely be a plus mark in my books. I think wap will be catching some wind with the new color display gprs cell phones.
There is a definite convergence trend going on. Applications will be content driven and can be thus used on multiple platforms (dtv/mobile/computer) with their own little presentation engines (xlet, mlet, browser, flash plugin).

blend, I don't think I will an i-mode heavy user. :) it costs money and this is what I lack at the moment :-/
But I think wireless thing is the future - in whatever format, standard and way it comes to us.

mmmmmmmmmmmoney,
that's what I like.
that's what it comes down to so often. Consumers don't have it or are not willing to spend it on humbug. I've to agree with you on the "mobile is the future" thing. I love the possibility to check the weather at the local ski slope with my wap-phone. It's not like I would use it too often, but really appreciate it if I need to make a decision on the go.

sorry, ershinn, to steal you thread .. or better, turn it in another direcion..
but, blend, this is what actually surprises me.How come people in Japan pay for it and europeans (not talking about americans) wouldn't really be captivated by this i-mode or wap to trash some money onit? How come?... 1Kb of data transfer will cost me 1Eurocent.
Plus, what choice do I have? Not every site is i-mode / wap / wireless ready. :(

donkey?
- popovich0
who's ass here, huh?
ershinn, I found something (man, there is i-mode in Holland, yo!): http://www.imode.nl/imode/0,1302…it's in Dutch, though, but you could sort some basic thing out with some translators. Yeah, and the thing is called cHTML. yo!
- popovich0
okay, dude, I googled for you a bit ;) , here : http://www.palowireless.com/imod…. Have fun!
[damn, I might get interested myself!...]

and the last, and the most obvious link: http://i-mode.nttdocomo.com/ with all resources and stuff.

A little over a year ago when I was doing work on i-mode projects, it was just cHTML (a very small subset of HTML with a couple extra tags for 1-key dialing) on the front-end and whatever you want on the back.
Not sure how things have changed now with all the Java/3G nonsense. Like I said, I'm about a yead and a half out of the loop.

I would not mind fininding out about the possibilities available to us with the 3G phones that are coming.
I wrote to http://www.three.co.uk
asking but they still have not answered :o(
A Flash player would be excellent (especially now it has video capabilities), or maybe macromedia could write an update for FlashMX so it could complie content directley for the phone format (not likley!!)Have any of you looked into developing for 3G?
Cheers.

absolutely cool, guys. I will doodle over the cHTML the next day I get my i-mode Toshiba, damn it! :)
