Why does the combine shapes filter (and it's varients) take all night in illustrator 10. I'm not doing anything different than I was in 9 but now for some reason it takes 100x longer to do it. granted my shapes are complex...but this is unacceptable. Any ideas as to make this go smoother?

you're using OS9X?
- dopepope0
No 10. But 9 worked better for this. And thats the problem.
- ok_static0
no i mean are you using AI 10 in OS 9?
actually it way slower compare to AI 9 in OS 9

Actually I'm running it on both at 2 different work stations here at my studio. I'm running it on 10 and 9 and getting the same extremely long progress bars. I'm talking hours...I used to combine complex shapes all the time and it never took this long in iLL9.

I guess I'm just shit outta luck huh?

i guess you should either try increase your memory of AI 10 or use AI 9 instead of AI 10.

Thanks static, you're the only one that cares.

Is BROOKE around?

Try holding down the "option key" when applying the command.
- dopepope0
What does that do Shift? (I can't test it now)

Makes it run smoother.

holy shit shift...you may have done it. I just gave it a quick go...and it worked. it bypassed the progress bar and went straight to the EXPAND part. That's lovely. The true test will be when I actually use it for one of my designs later on.
BUT THANKS SHIFT!

no prob. apply the "option" click to all the other tools in the pathfinder window.

Yeah..looks like it's exactly what I needed. Shit...even brooke didn't know that. And she's amazing with iLL. Something so simple...and I never thought to do it. THANKS!
