Right, I went for another date with a great girl of 27,
( I could set up a whole thread on why it is that all the women pop up when you decide to go round the fking world),
we discussed wine and I made a bet with her of 2 Drinks (for anyone outside the UK thats about $450 in Southern England)
on the following fact that I got from my brother..."Red wine is not necassarily from red grapes and likewise, white wine is not necassarily from white grapes".
I have scanned google but alas I am yet to find evidence for, or against. Anyone know? Anyone got links?

I think all wine is made from white grapes. You leave the skin on during the process to get red wine. The tanin comes from the skin, colouring the liquid. Temperature plays a big part.
use this...

I worked in a vineyard in Cornwall of all places, and red wine was from red grapes, and white from white grapes

what about Guinness? That's from black grapes, no?

ok you make a cash bet with a date and not for the clothes to come off?
don't make me take my belt off and strike you with it man!
haha

They used to make it from weedkiller in Albania.

Best sarcastic tone please.....
Oh well thanks very much for your help.
*Walks out in strop, yet will be back later to check if someone has posted the correct answer, which to date, has not appeared*
PS. You cant go on a fist date and say "If you get this bet wrong I get to hump you all night". Women dont like that for some reason.

the colour compounds, anthocyanins, are located in the skin of the black grapes. The anthocyanins need to be extracted from the skins to get the colour in red wines. By contrast, if the juice can be squeezed from the pulp with little skin contact, then white wine can be made from black grapes. Many of the great champagnes are made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier (both black) and Chardonnay

Kernit is absolutely right. White wine can be made from either red or white grapes, it depends how much the grapes are pressed. Rather like olive oil some of the finest wines are made from the least pressing, however unlike olive oil you can still get extraordinary results when the grape is squeezed dry.
Red wine would require red grapes. I am yet to see a 'red chardonnay'...

Kernit & Rupedixon MANY THANKS to you. Very helpfull indeed. So both white & red wine can be made from red grapes, and ( so am I right in saying...) white wine can be made from white grapes but not red. Right? Thanks again.

'fist date' - freudian slip?
- rupedixon0
White grapes = white wine
Red grapes = red wine +white wine, hope this doesn't spoil the bet ;)
- Vinney20
We were both right then, and both wrong. Hmmm. Thanks. Im not paying up.

ok Vinney2 so now if you win the bet, then you STRIKE with the bet money! say 'nah I want your soul, not your money!'
(evil laugh to send fear in her heart)do it for all perverted designer types on the net, do it for billy the virgin dentist from toronto, do it for silky the smooth talking pimp from oakland, do it for the team!
try my approach,
on my 1st date with my girl, we ending up talking by the pool I pushed her in, with her clothes...then they came off. do that...and SCORE!
