I'm trying to import an image from Fireworks into Flash. It has a drop shadow that is lost when I import into flash as editable vector image. And when I import as a rasterized image, it looks like poo. Any ideas? Can Flash create a drop shadow effect?

method A:
use a PNG from photoshop with the drop shadow masked out using the alpha channel.
Method B:
get a silhouette (sp?) of your vector image and
modify>shape>soften fill edges
to create a nice shadow.

why not just use gradients in flash?

use a vector drop shadow
if you use a raster one - definitely do it in Photoshop and export as a 24-bit PNG
they look way nice in Flash

hahaha, you said poo.

Thank you all for your help. I wanted to avoid having to make the image again, either in Photoshop or Flash. MonNom, I don't have much experience with alpha channels - how would I mask out the drop shadow in PS like you suggested?

its because you are not giving sufficient room for the outline of the shadow. Make sure you give an area of the same BG color in Flash around your image.

pngs will work fine, but they are filesize whores and if you have to animate them, you're going to see stuff slow down.
My way is painful but effect. Manually creating a drop shadow as a series of shapes in Illustrator. Use object blend and expand if possible, then distribute to layers, export the file to a .swf and import. Then, take each object on each layer, and set it to a low alpha.
