- _nando0

Thanx

i don't think they have designers.
i bet the owners son (who's 16) does a wonderful job and that cuts some serious costs because you know that advertising and branding are really not very improtant.
could be one of the uglier sites on the web and the logo....... don't get me started.
- _nando0
Yeah I know, I just want to know how big is the company that does it, if it is a company. I better look for better websites, cause eBay's really ugly in my opinion.

You guys should maybe realize what is behind E-Bay, why it looks like it does. Why they don't use flashy transitions and 30 second intros. Quick loading, so that they actually get some product sold. When it comes down to it in the end, a usable site will always outdue a beautiful site. Beautiful sites are what we make for each other, usable sites are what we make for the public. I find too often that a site needs to get to the point, but instead goes around and around being all pretty.

Yep, I agree Jensen, plus Im quite sure they have full timers at ebay. why waste the money hiring an expensive agency when you can pay people peanuts to do it full time.

It can be useable *and* beautiful.

E-Bay's design and logo is SH!T!
aaaahhhthank you!!
- mitsu0
prolly 3 techies in a box... they rock!
- jpowell0
i am not a big fan of ebay's design either...
i have yet to get a response from this page, although it certainly makes a statement.
- iSolve0
thats fucking retarted.
the site is ugly and very usable.
so back to the beggining for all the content kings.
bad design is bad design.
ebay is the poster child.let have a redesign ebay logo competition. ;0
- jpowell0
whats "retarded" i solve?
my design probably isn't the best design... but it sure beats ebayelectronics
http://www.ebayelectronics.com/i was trying to make a statement for all of us... sometimes people don't get the picture unless you create the picture for them.

ebay is crazy successful without good design, sad but true.

some .com designer worked very hard on that logo. can't you apreciate the way the letters blend in to eachother? freakin genius. ohh and those bright colors. its a timeless piece
- jonatne0
well there must be something right about the ebay.com design because it sure has worked for them
and if it is an outside job then the agency sure did something right to score ebay as a client
maybe you aren't all the best at what you do
maybe ebay is on just a slightly different level than first local bank or rob's sporting goods
and also
lets assume my mom is the average ebay user
my mom could not possibly care less how much time and money went into the colors and logo of ebay.com ; as long as she can log on, find the product and bid

actually their logo is great. long ago before i even knew their name i was looking for an auction site, and all i could rememebr was that the logo was suppose to be "all colofull"
They did a great job with the logo.
- unknown0
they picked the logo up at a car boot sale for $5, which is why its so fitting.
ebay doesn't need designing.

My bet is that ebay is trying to look "cheap". I'm dead serious.
That's the whole idea of an auction company. Ebay looks cheap and appeals to the masses I think that was the plan.
Sotheby's looks expensive and has an entirely different target audience.
Ebay is of the walmart school. If they look expensive people will think sub-conciously that they can't afford anything on there.
Has nothing to do with usability.
Amazon is usable, but they aren't trying to look like a yard sale like Ebay is.

okay, ebay is ugly, but it is not the ugliest site on the planet. and the site effectively pegs its target market - joe q. public. and mr. public does not give jack shit about 45 degree angles and drop shadows (no offense). each market has its own niche, and ebay is common folk. ebay is an equalizer, meaning you can sell last years gucci bag to a woman surfing in her underthings in kansas and her husband can sell you some addition to your Homies collection while sipping on overpriced coffee in a cafe. ebay is a service, not an elite club. i'm surprised it has any design; it could have blue hyperlinks on pale yellow backgrounds in 14 pt courier and it would still be around kicking ass. are there prettier austion sites? i'm sure. some website already had a "let's redesign ebay" competition; it was pink and pixelly, and it would have been sexy, but would have destroyed the empire that is the Ebay. rosie o'donnell would be rolling in the streets somewhere, and as hilarous as that would be, she has other things she can get in a tizzy about. not design. she can leave that for PV-AN.
but closer to the guys original q: no one know who does the PRINT ads for ebay? or for that matter those musical numbers on tv.
