you know how they require the preceeding slash in each path? So I can't preview my page locally... I have to upload it every time I make a change to check it. Is there a way around this?

I think you can correct it in httpd.conf in your apache/conf folder. Look for ServerName.

oh, unfortunatly I have no control over the server. I'm helping a friend, working on his pages. I suppose there's nothing I can do from my end?

Send a mail to whoever runs the server.
I donĀ“t understand why you have to upload before previewing

well, pages don't work when I'm viewing them locally and they have that extra forward slash on the paths.
Anyway I found my answer, I just need set up a virtual directory and be my own server while I work on it... still kind of a pain...

There's a decent chance that you can override whatever the default apache setting is with a .htaccess file.
