What do you suggest? Which is your favorite? I get to choose one for Christmas.
I generally do web design, but the ocassional graphic design job does come in, and I do a lot of personal graphic design. Also do a bit of light gaming.

i read a review on building the ultimate graphic workstation, the end product = around £1,000 or $1, 500,
the graphic/video card mentioned was
ATI Fire GL 8800 or 750xgl or 900 xgl
take your pick, they get more and more powerful depending on what ur using it for

My personal suggestion would be ATI Radeon 9000.
It has a superior technology, ATI's reputation for superior color and display quality and good driver support. It goes around $99-$150 depending whether you're buying 64Mb or 128Mb version. If this is too much for you then I would highly recommend ATI Radeon 8500LE 128 Mb/TVout. I have the 8500 it's by far the best card out there for the money you give. You can find Hercules Edition for about $85. Hercules is a company producing ATI based cards (it's the same thing in quality, they just use ATI chips).
Cheers.

The perfect graphics workstation for $1500? Those nvidia cards you mentioned (700 gxl, 750 gxl, 900 gxl) go for about $500 - 1200 for the cards themselves!
I've always liked nvidia (I've got a Geforce2 and a Quadro 700gxl in my workstation), but I've read a lot of great things about the ATI 9700. I believe it got a 'product of the year' from PC Mag, too. None of these are cheap, cards, though.

I ended up getting an ATI Radeon 7500 with 128mb RAM. I'm super excited. It should be waiting for me at my house when I get home from Christmas vacation. Now I just need to get a nicer monitor.

Please return it and buy a $200 Radeon 9500 PRO instead.

Non-returnable. Besides, I'm not sure it's important enough to me to go that high-end.

The 9500 PRO is capable of rendering real-time Photoshop effects through its pixel shaders.

I've been extremely happy with my GeForce 4 Ti4200 since I got it. I do some gaming myself and it's holding up extremely well there. So many games are written around it's technology. ATI has some great products out right now too though but I can only speak for my experience.

yeah, I personally have to say that the leadtek (geforce4ti) 4200 is a really nice card.. not as good for dual screen support as my old matrox g550, but makes up for it in other ways.. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT GENERATION FROM NVIDIA

What's your monetary range?
Sounds to be like you could be fine if you got a Ti4200. Solid, dependable, and great value.
Or, as others have mentioned, a Radeon 9500 Pro. I heard they beefed it up than initial specs, so could be good. And it supports DX9.
