scientists say that humans use between 2 and 10% of their brains... THAT THEY KNOW OF... so there doesn't 'appear' to be any activity...
... you can't prove that. I don't trust science or doctors in cases like this - because the only way to know is experience.
... and those who have suffered malnutrition and starvation have declared that it is painful.
