I have two words for you:
e-bay
well, one letter and one word... and a hyphen, my flatmate is addicted to ebay and has decked out our house brilliantly with retro objects from the 50's through to the 70's. Its amazing what you can find at op-shops and garage sales (will translate for non-australians - op-shop = thrift shop, ummm, st.vincent de paul... umm, you know second hand shops and antique shops...
garage sale = yard sale (i think))
okay I have one more word for you -
theme..
once you find a theme for a room you'll be able to find all sorts of things that loosely tie into that theme...
