    man.. this issue has been talked through the roof..

    i personally think it does not matter .. as long as you are not broadcasting it to a group (like tv or film) and are not making money off of the actual piece that is your reel...

    others will tell you any stuff that isn't paid for is illegal.. i've had account execs at NBC tell me it's ok..

    personally.. i work at an ABC affiliate.. we are allowed to use 9 seconds and 29 frames worth of music before we can get in trouble for using it in station promotions and such...

    so i just splice songs together from different parts..

    for me though.. in my personal reels.. it all boils down to..
    "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission" and "i didn't sell their song, nor did i sell the piece i used it in"..

    if i make a personal project.. just for myself.. i should be able to use whatever music i want.. if i decide to show it to some people.. i shouldn't get impaled because of it..
