for me, the best design it that which truely represents the best of yourself, taking that and putting it on the screen, that's the toughest thing to do. it's very vague i know but it's the only way i can explain it. i've worked with lot's of designers in the past and if you can get to that point, the thing you are, the thing you do the thing that you love to look at and share and put that out infront of you, it's a personal experience but once you hit it, get the right design you will know, it's like when i do work and i know this is the design the client will pick and love, i just know i hit it on the mark... maybe that helps..(?)
