Commuter fee? The hell is that? I pay enough for tolls and the like. These are my options for getting into Manhattan from where I live (Livingston, near Short Hills).
1) Drive in: $6 toll, gas and parking.
2) Bus it in: Walk down the block, $5.75 each way and $2 to ride the subway from the Port Authority. Total costs: $14.50 everyday.
3) Take the train from Harrison. Drive to Harrison, park the car there and take the Path to Union Square. About $5 in parking and $1.50 for the train ride. So about $8 for the round trip.
