Most real estate agents (like so many other industries) work of 'their reputation'. Good real estate agents I know, know all the people in their area really well, and have a big fat address book with all their regular clients details - just keep in mind that it takes time to get to the top in any industry.
Good luck - and remember, clients are clients... you'll have 'can ya just do it for 10K less' clients just like the creative 'can ya just make it redder'.
