weird font issue

  I had this problem - but worse when I first used Font Book. Turned out I had inadvertantly turned off the System Fonts my Mail program needed to display messages and windows. This issues ended up crashing all of my applications. Somehow figured out what happened. Try looking at what fonts you have open - maybe you need the system fonts turned on?? Hope this helps.
