The important issue is that we as designers, whether or not we wear black clothes and have black framed glasses and complain about our lives ( i think zedvox, you are confusing us with visual artists ), is that we must use design, yes design, to improve our surroundings, to improve the quality of content, to improve and build upon or perhaps destroy the clutter and popular trends you speak of; let's make everything a bit easier to understand, and bit more pleasing to read or more pleasant to handle. Bad design is bad design, but there is still a lot of great design to be seen, used and enjoyed.
