    ^^^^

I also work with a bunch of graphic designers, 20-30YO. Their skills range, some are very good. Excellent, even.

Working on some substantial brochures/catalogs with lots of information to convey. Decent budget with high-end finishes, etc. It's a really legit & fun opportunity. I find out NONE of them give 2 shits about grid systems.

I pull out books by Joseph Muller Brockmann, Wim Crouwel etc. for a bit of inspiration/educational time. NO ONE has even heard of them. They go on paging through the books with looks of subtle amusement, then set them down and go on their way designing without ANY fucking grids.

Makes me wonder what the fuck I'm even doing anymore

    • you should do the grid system and let them fill stuff in :-)
Did you ever notice that Brockmann published a manual for industry users on how to use grids.

    • it's like a template. layout thinking boiled down to some rules, with solutions for common problems.uan
    • Like no standard columns or margins?! WTFmonospaced
    • Not only as a designer, also as a consumer, I find grid systems very pleasing. So, I don't understand the young designers.SimonFFM
    • grid systems don't let me express my feelings through art thodoesnotexist
