Is there a reason why the brand is X but the domain is still Twitter?

    • call elon and askpockets
    • x.com takes you to twitter.comsarahfailin
    • Yea but shouldn't it be the opposite, twitter.com takes you to x.com?yuekit
    • shouldn't twitter.com take you to x.comdbloc
    • I mean I'm not a billionaire tech CEO but that's what I would have doneyuekit
    • I've had to change a company's name before; Brand-level redirects have tons of issues with existing links, especially with integrated services, etc.evilpeacock
    • It's probably going from X to twitter because if it didn't some deep integrations might break, or security checks freak out when there's an extra "hop".evilpeacock
    • Or it could literally just be someone didn't know any better.evilpeacock
    • Did he buy x.com recently or he owned it for some time and just wanted to put it into use?drgs
    • ^ X.com was the domain name associated with PayPal back in 1998 when Musk co-founded PayPal.Krassy
    • ...he bough back the domain in 2017 for something crazy like $10millionKrassy
    • @evilpeacock It's probably because Elon Musk demanded they change the site to X, people pointed out what you said and he insisted they do it anyway.yuekit
    • @yuekit Exactly... It takes effort and time to correctly plan for a mass redirect of domain-based resources, usually well in advance of a target date.evilpeacock
    • I think the twitter.com domain will be reduced to provide relay for connected services and things like twtdeck, users will be slowly redirected to x.com.sted
