Fuck the blacks, fuck the gays ... let’s see, who’s next.

The court ruled 6-3 for designer Lorie Smith despite a Colorado state law that bars discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender and other characteristics. Smith had argued that the law violates her free speech rights.

    • It's a private business, they can refuse clients. I wouldn't be comfortable making websites for religious zealots, anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists, hell I_niko
    • ...wouldn't be comfortable making websites for the Toronto Maple Leafs since I'm a die hard Has fan lol...you can refuse business._niko
    • Imagine going to a design shop with rainbow flags all over the place, clearly liberal and asking them to make anti-abortion websites or maga_niko
    • ...sites, do they not have the right to refuse?_niko
    • Trying to picture a gay couple so desperate for a website that they call this lady after looking at her portfolio...72339
    • They have a right to refuse. They could and should have said they were too busy. Refusing based on sexual orientation was a mistake.monospaced

    • there was no couple - the situation was entirely fabricated, so now the SC draws a line and makes it entirely acceptable to disciminate against LGBTQ+ folk.face_melter
    • so all you fucking libs going '...well, ackshually it's a business...' can fucking bite it. the entire thing was designed by bigots to strip more rights away.face_melter
    • I agree with Niko, i refuse clients all the time. only issue i see is now public businesses can refuse to serve thus fueling law approved hate. My 2 centshydro74
    • hmm good point Hydro, was thinking this didn't apply to public/govt corporations only small mom and pop shops/freelancers individual contractors etc_niko
    • but if this applies to businesses of any size then yeah it's a problem. Can Chick-filet refuse to serve gays now? or Muslims? yikes._niko
    • But serving someone a beer or letting them in your shop to buy stuff is way different than hiring a creative who needs to buy in, become emerged in the project_niko
    • ...learn all they can to be able to deliver their best creative, so yeah it’s a little more personal and involved and if it’s not your cup of tea you should be ab_niko
    • Able to walk away from it or outright refuse the gig. You have to love what you’re doing as a creative to produce great work._niko
    • I need some swastika-patterned scarfs for my grandma.crazyprick
    • So, how does this differ from a restaurant saying to blacks or gays "We don't serve your kind here."? This is a precedent for so much equally savage racism.CyBrainX
    • It's different because it's not personal. It'd be like hiring a devout muslim writer to pen an article "The Joys of eating Pork"_niko
    • saying, "we don't serve gays" is personal if they're gaymonospaced
    • on a related note, I have a devout muslim designer that I assign corporate pride campaign design to EVERY SINGLE YEARmonospaced
