is this still a thing? lol

ok I have a client that I'm trying to talk out of SEO and just do paid advertising instead, let me know your opinions

She's a real estate agent in a city where everyone is a real estate agent, more agents than people!

so the actual number is 48,000 agents, and say half are active and making a serious go of it. Let's say that of those 24,000 agents, half again are pushing marketing and paying for SEO.

That means 12,000 agents vying for 10 positions on the first page.
This is bonkers. All of them use similar strategies, keywords, are up on the latest google algorithms etc, so there is no way in hell that SEO isn't anything but a waste of time for 99.99% of them.

I say throw some money at paid ads and get instant results instead.

    • Tell her that SEO is going to be a long term tactic. She won't see any results for months. years even. Paid will get her top spot, but may be expensive (LTV)monNom
    • BUT, every year as many realtors leave the business as join it, so if she sticks it out and is consistent, it may work for her.monNom
    • Get a listing. That's the best form of advertising in that business.monNom
    • ^google listing + there may be an opportunity to optimize for name + realtor or name + city ยป if you optimize the shit of the about page.hotroddy
    • You get a lot of SEO *for free* from actually building a site with semantic markup, accessibility support, and good copy/microcopy. But few actually do this.evilpeacock
    • a_REAL ESTATE_listing -Like a house for sale. People who want houses will come out of the woodwork wanting to talk to her. Neighbors selling will take her card.monNom
