In reality according to this new study, China would probably lose a war over Taiwan against the combined forces of Taiwan, USA and Japan. But at the same time the war would likely devastate the US military and damage US power and influence in the world.

    • Look at russia/ukraine, you can literally walk across from russia to ukraine. Look at china/taiwan - that's quiet a distance of typhoon blasted deep ocean.shapesalad
    • China can attack, but not sustain a war over such a distance of ocean.shapesalad
    • True but the downside is it would be much more difficult to supply Taiwan vs Ukraine.yuekit
    • Same logic applies for supplying Chinese troops so far out from the mainland.shapesalad
    • The situation would become a siege, but with Japan + USA + rest of world backing up Taiwan.shapesalad
    • Plus russian style sanctions on China would soon ruin it at a a local level and cause more problems for CCP.shapesalad
    • Yeah I have trouble believing they would go for it, at least in the near future. Seems out of character for CCP leadership to start a war that would have suchyuekit
    • an unpredictable outcome, would devastate China's economy etc. I also suspect there would be large-scale protests like with COVID.yuekit
    • Great link. I'd wager China isn't setting foot in Taiwan because the second they step in that shit, most of the world will be defending Taiwan for chip reasons.garbage
