So all of you that are using these AI generators: you are ok with the same arguments used against bitcoin, computational drain on electricity and thusly environmental effects. You're ok with that, you don't mind that energy used each time you generate your computer drawn picture?

    • Same energy drain an bitcoin mining?Gnash

    • actually it's faster than photoshop...frees up time to enjoy nature.uan
    • I've actually wondered about this, and would like to check it out. But yes, this isn't purely cynical greed.Nairn
    • Stable diffusion apparently cost ~$600k to train the initial model. But once trained, it's very low power to make an image.
Dalle2 charges about $0.03 per image

    • A $500 3060 draws 170W and takes about 10s to make an image. Thats 360 images an hour, so about 0.5Whr per image, about the same as an LED nightlight.monNom
    • a single bitcoin transaction uses 3 - 4 million times the energy of a generating 512x512 image :Dkingsteven
    • it's data center / cloud infrastructure energy, which is mostly clean because it's cheaper for them.uan
