I decided a couple of months ago that I want to buy an analog camera with a 50mm lens to shoot some concert photos of friends, my daughter playing, like everyday pictures and some traveling.

I was totally convinced about buying the Canon AE1 and even saw a couple between 100 (just a camera with one lens) and 150 bucks (from camera with one lens to three lenses and a bag).

Then I read about the Canon AE1 Program and its dial, ISO selector and viewfinder. Okay, I guess that's worth it.

But then I was like, wait, lets check what Nikon has that's comparable.

And now I'm a bit divided in actually buiyng either a:

Nikon FE or Nikon FE2 (second hand 250 bucks!!!)

There are other interesting options like the Nikon F2 or FM.
I would even consider buying a Nikon FG for 50 bucks.

So now I decided to reduce my budget and not fall into the trend prices and just buy a camera with a 50mm lens for 75 to 100 bucks max.

Can someone give me some advice on these cameras?

    • Buyy a old Canon EOS 1.
I got two, fun to shoot analog.

      tank02
    • I have a lot of old analog ones, and al the manual stuff is a drag, the EOS 1 is good palet cleanser after working with a Hassie 500 or a Fuji GW690iiitank02
    • This is my most fun medium format camera:
      Fujifilm GA645
      tank02
    • Pentax K1000ok_not_ok
    • Nikon FG is all you need and the size is amazing. Very reliable. Only drawback is that the power “switch” can be accidentally clicked on.nb
    • If you get a Nikon, get an ai or ais lens. Do NOT get an Eseries lens.nb
    • Best designed SLR camera of this era is the Olympus OM-2 or OM-2n. There are many great cameras, but this one is the best.nb
    • If you have large hands and don’t mind a big clunker, the Pentax K1000 or Spotmatic with an SMC lens are fantastic and cheaper.nb

    • thank you all for your input! I'm really not very into the K1000 though despite being more than okay. From Pentax I would prefer a ME.oey_oey
    • But if I find a K1000 for 50€ I'll buy it.oey_oey
    • K1000 was the first camera my mom gave me, it's a learner. Seconding the OM system. I have an OM2 and OM4. IMHO the OM4 is the best 35mm SLR ever.garbage
    • They're getting cheaper. I have those bodies and library of lenses and I still can't bring myself to part with them even though I haven't shot them in years.garbage
    • I even bought an adapter for my Fuji so that I could still shoot OM lenses. They have a good feel.garbage

Dragged this out of storage, and this is what you want. Surprisingly cheap on Ebay.
      garbage
    • I don’t think the Pentax ME has full manual... I might be wrong. Might need the ME Supernb
    • I actually meant the Pentax MX sorry. The ME Super has a manual function but I read that it limits you.oey_oey
