The Constitution requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate to convict, and the penalty for an impeached official upon conviction is removal from office.

They got 53% and not the 67% required.

    • not the senate, that is up nexttank02

    • This was the House not the Senate. It's true that the Senate probably won't follow through on removing him. But he has now been impeached twice.yuekit
    • You're right. I stand corrected. This vote drafts the articles where the senate will surely vote and have the same result.monospaced

    • What else can the Democrats (and the apparently tiny minority of sane and responsible Republicans) do in such a situation? The ball is now in the GOP's court.yuekit

    • The Senate needs 2/3 vote. It won’t happen. This isn’t really the impeachment people wanted.monospaced

    • It's 2/3 of senators that are present, some Rs might think it best to stay home and let him be impeached: https://www.washingt…zarkonite
