I wish in Illustrator you could 'export' as a PDF, instead of having to save as a PDF, which gets really annoying when you still have it open, edit it, hit save.... then later open the AI file to see the edits are not there, because you were editing the PDF.

Yeah confusing and annoying as I want the PDF as an exported output format from my master AI file. I don't want to 'convert' my ai file to PDF and continue working in a PDF file.

    • oh..ok.. export for screens after making a pdf preset.shapesalad
    • affinity designer will do this, just sayinghans_glib
    • I have made a habit of saving twice, once as pdf for export, then again for the ai file. Just roll in the pdf export dialogue from InDesign, for fuck's sake.face_melter
    • THIS!!!!!!monospaced
    • "Save a Copy" in File menu!fyoucher1
    • 'Export for screens' will export each artboard as a single PDF. FFS.... no multipage option.shapesalad
    • This drives me mental. Illustrator is just a mess to be fair. Why have mesh options which put my 3 year old Mac on its knees?Ianbolton
    • Why have smart guides and inferencing if they don't mean shit? Click on the edge to start, go back to zoom in and it's pixels off. WTF?monospaced
    • Don't tell me "Center" or "Anchor" if it's not 100% true. Close isn't gonna cut it.monospaced
    • check snap to pixel is off. but yeah, total shite. maths behind it all is dodgy.shapesalad
    • Fuck snap to pixel too. What a crock of shit that is.monospaced
    • Yeah, Snap to pixel is a shit default. I turn that off every time.CyBrainX
    • In Illustrator, just save a copy for PDFs. Export screens if you want a multipage PDF from artboards. Those methods have been working for me for years.CyBrainX
