My office is inside my apt, next to my bedroom. It was furnished with dark, almost black wooden IKEA desks and shelves and after 14 years, it definitely was time for a change. Especially as I spend 10 hours per day in this room, when I am not on the road.

My wife is working in the same room, with the same new desk, but I have chosen the angle, so only my place is in the frame.

    This is my new workspace:

I went for the just mentioned solution:
    - 1 x IKEA Alex on the left
    - 2 custom legs that I screwed to the desktop
    - 180x75cm multiplex birch covered with RAL 9018 linoleum

I measured and then mounted a 21mm multiplex birch plate underneath Alex to have the desk leveled. To my surpise I managed to have it 100% in level.

The desk space feels huge. And finally I have a new light office. It makes such a difference to the dark room that it was before.

I screwed a power strip to the back of Alex to tidy up the cables a bit.

The speciality of the custom made desk top is that there is a slope of 25 degees that makes the plate look thin and light.
In reality it is 3cm in thickness and the weight is 23kg. It is very stable.

I don't know why linoleum isn't available in white, but I am happy with RAL 9018 (so-called Papyrus white).

The rest of the room is new, too. I bought a new lamp to hang from the ceiling. It's white as well, so you barely recognize it.

The sideboard holds my wifi printer (no more shitty cable) and the Monstera hasn't grown yet, so just as an example, I put it inside the pot I bought:

Last year, I framed a print for a client behind museum glas. It was very expensive but looked so amazing, I decided to buy this for my office, too. I chose two smaller frames (50x70cm). But the glas swallows most of the reflection, so the photos feel amazin when you look at them. I decided to change the photos 4 times per year.

My stuff rests behind a white curtain. It's a thick darkening curtain.

I set up an ugly but very stable metal shelf there to put all my stuff in there.

I also have my stereo back there and my wireless earphones, in case my wife works at her desk as well.

Now, I ordered a felt mousepad, because I am afraid to make scratches into the linoleum desktop with my mouse. Didn't have a mousepad for more than two decades, but well.

    • I hate the radiator. Looks so shitty. But I am only rentin, so I cannot paint it. The windows are ugly, too.SimonFFM
    • I think you've created a nice, tranquil space. I might suggest a comfy arm chair or mall sofa for relaxing also.monospaced
    • Come on. These have to be CG renders.CyBrainX
    • No, no. All real. The room has only 14sqm. Photographed with a 25mm lens. So it looks larger. My couch is in the next room, so I can chill there.SimonFFM
    • will look great once you've tidied upFax_Benson
    • Note that cutting mat may cause cancer over time. No one seems to know the level of exposure needed to put you at risk, though.nb
    • I really like this setup. the radiator is a constant grid in your view, some quality white curtains can make these things disappear :) sup with the pencils?sted
