So I did a long-term freelance gig with a design agency. The agency sent me out a couple times to a client who they subsequently lost, causing me to lose my job with them.
Toward the end of the agency's contract with the client, I asked the head of the agency if I could reach out to my contact at the client (a person who agency owner had no relationship with) and he was very offended I'd asked. I told him sorry and that I wouldn't ask.
Fast-forward to today, my contact found me on linkedin and asked if I wanted to do some work.
Am I making more of an ethical issue out of this than I should? Do I just write back and say I'm up for it? It's likely it would get back to the agency owner if I did. I just don't like to burn bridges ya know?
- Sounds a-okay to me.monNom
- Did you sign a non compete? Depending on where you are, that's enforceable and the agency can sure for damages otherwise everyone would be staking clients ifshellie
- Given content under the guise of a working relationship with another company. Be careful. I've known purple sued for this.shellie
- *given contract under the guiseshellie
- you're fine to do it, but you'll lose the goodwill of the agency forever. your call.hans_glib
- Yeah, never signed anything with the agency so legally I think I'm fine. Goodwill ... Do I care? hmm no closer to an answer.mandomafioso
