OK, so it's a bit shit, but I'm super-chuffed with how my very first attempt at etching metal's come out...

Lessons learned: Use less resist, be more patient, use actual acetone to remove resist (not isopropanol), especially don't use a fucking metal scourer to clean off the resist (idiot).

Now I need to work out the best combo of salt solution and acid, and then see how deep I can go...

    • Ta! I've been marking metals for years, but this is the first time i've had actual tactility to it.. even if it's quite light here. Now I need a real project...detritus
    • ...i'd use my favourite kitchen knife, had I not covered laser-marked 'motherfucker' all over it years ago. Family loves that when they visit... .detritus

    • Nice!
      Ever done photoetching on brass?
      Continuity
    • so this is a chemical etch? no cnc / laze involved?hans_glib
    • H2SO4? or HCL? do share your resist technique if you will. do you screen your resist or do a hobo transfer? looks great! mine are always pitted and lose detail.zombiewoof

    • This looks pretty damn good to me. I know someone that does etching, and there's are never crisp like this.section_014
    • I'm afraid I cheated with the resist a bit - it's nail varnish that's been lasered out at 600dpi. The etchant's just lightly acidic salt water with a chargedetritus
    • I mean, 'cheated'; in the traditional sense - i'm simply trying to make more use of the laser process :)detritus
