So all this talk about guns has got me thinking, I want one. Mostly because I spend nights alone and well, because I don't want to find myself in a situation where I can't defend myself. My dog is old and blind now :( he's no help and I'm not getting a scary dog anytime soon. Figured If the crazies have guns, no reason I shouldn't be able to own one myself.
I'm curious if any of your women own guns? I'm a pretty good shot at the range so I'm ready for it.

    • buy a machetemoldero
    • Shellie doespango
    • Definitely get an AR15. Great to have lying around. Perfect for murdering robbers, and much better than a small dog.monospaced

    • @sea but you said the reason why was "because I don't want to find myself in a situation where I can't defend myself" :)chukkaphob
    • Also, grew up in Mexico and in the city streets, i know how to look out for myself, that said, if you don't see the need to at least know how to handle a gun...sea_sea
    • Well then that's your choice. Guns aren't just for the wack jobs, they also protect people.sea_sea
    • I dated a girl who had a beautiful chrome .25 that fit in her silver clutch, kinds like this, http://media.liveauc…robotron3k

    • If you got a gun, and you defended yourself, could you live with the memory of seeing someone bleed to death?shapesalad
    • How do you feel about killing and death? Ever caught a big fish and hit it over it's head? Killed a chicken? Pig?shapesalad
    • If you believe that you can do what you what in your own house then why not go the whole Magilla and get a fucking Barrett.face_melter
    • Because if you're already with the mindset of killing someone then you may as well make it as noisy and messy as possible. Just so you remember. Always.face_melter
    • sea_sea i'm with you, ignore the noise, I would look for online reviews or go into a shop to ask what they recommend. Also consider martial arts. stay safe :)sofas
    • and no, my women don't own guns. We live in a country that chose not to mistrust everyone by defaultmekk
    • You just explained the infinite spiral of guns in USA with this post sea_sea. Everyone want a gun because everyone want a gun.Bennn

    • don't fuck about with pistols - get a double barrel shotgun and saw the barrel and stock off. tons of noise, tons of spread, easy to wield. mad max style.hans_glib
    • Thanks guys, some of you get me. I knew this would rattle some of you, we can also spend years debating why you think I'm wrong.sea_sea
    • shapesalad can't sleep at nights if he steps on an antpinkfloyd
    • Like I mentioned before, moving is not an option. At least not now. Self defense is something I'm looking into as well so thanks for that.sea_sea
    • Love the comments, either "Don't get one, no need to" or "Go loud or go home".Maaku
    • Thanks ponyb, yes I'm in CA.
Pago, a ccp is a conceal carry permit. I can't walk around with a gun in my bag in CA. I don't need that, I just want it at home.

    • curious, would you describe the exact scenario that unfolds that prompts you to use a gun? someone breaking in your house to kill you???? why?? what for???chukkaphob
    • ^ honest question...and hope you asnwer. Is there really a reason for someone to break into your house and threaten your life? you have such enemies???chukkaphob

    • Chukka, not really expecting anyone to come in for the kill yet. lol but there are certain concerns that come along with being a woman who is alone at night.sea_sea
    • @sea_sea sounds like your best bet is trying to move to a different neighborhood (I know you said you can't afford it, but maybe do more research?)chukkaphob

    • anyway, hope you find a sensible solution . best wishes :)chukkaphob
    • I don't have a problem with certain guns chukka. I grew up around them. I do have a problem with humans who use them to kill inocente people or animals.sea_sea
    • C's... you might want to just look into a cheepo 12 gauge shotgun if it's just home 'ready' use you need. Accuracy schmacuracy... aim and shoot. CC=safe. :)PonyBoy
    • I'm not trying to get a gun so I can flash it on Instagram btw.sea_sea

    • besides @Morning_star's good camera suggestion (fake or real cameras), a security company sign/sticker could help deter, even if it isn't sincere (e.g. stolen)sofas
    • ^ fake sensors might be more tricky if an intruder expects an alarm and one doesn't go offsofas
    • studies show that a dog, ANY dog, not a big scary one, even just a little ankle-biting fucker, will deter something like 95% of all intrudersmonospaced
    • +1 on the dog. Get an English stafordshire. They're very good dogs, and they are very good at guarding homes and their people.dyspl
    • Little dogs moreso. My father's neighbour was broken into a few years back and the thieves fed their big daft dog ham from their fridge, quietening it utterlydetritus
    • ..all the while, the little yappy dog my dad had was being a total loud cunt all night. We had no idea why, and I was fucking irate, not being able to sleep.detritus
    • (I happened to be staying their at the time)detritus
    • Sorry - neighbours were IN their house at the time, as we were in ours. We were quite shook up when we realised the day after.detritus
    • Eh... we had a prowler at my old house and the dog didn't make a noise. I try to sneak in w/out waking up the wife and the dog goes nuts. :/PonyBoy
    • I think qbn is a very good stress test for anyone who wants to buy a gun.pango
    • I have an English bull terrier, she's old and deaf now, a very sweet dog, friendly with people coming. But she showed a sens of guarding "us" a few times, dyspl
    • Growling at silhouettes showing at a hotel window, or running to a room where a shutter had slapped and surprised me.dyspl
