    Erm..?

Graffiti Artists Awarded $6.7 Million for Destroyed 5Pointz Murals

This seems like a ridiculous judgement to me. Any NYers able to tell me whether the building owner had owned the place before the graffiti was put up?

    • The future owner whitewashed 10 months before the property was given permits for any construction. Done overnight no warning.robotron3k
    • I guess what I'm asking is — was it his property before the graffiti was added? If so, so fuck what he does to his property? Graffiti should be ephemeral.detritus
    • I appreciate street art, to a degree - but oftentimes it IS just vandalism. I'm not sure what right to ownership there can be here.detritus
    • He owned it, but violated law because he initially agreed to display their work back in the 90s. It's def splitting hairs but there is some settlement.robotron3k
    • oh, well i suppose if he agreed to it..detritus
    • thanks, btw!detritus
    • I’ve seen artistic graffiti but most of that building looked like good ol territory vandalism style. Millions. Fucking lawyers.monospaced
