    another request...

    how do i turn this

    into a functioning this...

    • Buy a socket, it will come with instructions for wiring.i_monk
    • duct tape it. fixes everything.uan
    • Hard to tell from just pic. Need to know if there's something else on this circuit. I use this site a lot :https://www.doityou...bezoar

    • pick yourself up a voltage tester. it looks like you have what you need but the bare wire in the back is scary. I have to imagine that's the ground.kona
    • your issue might be current coming in and a splice going back out to something else. you could tie in as long as it's something low voltage.kona
    • bare is just the ground, no worries.Gnash
    • thanks guys! If I don't post tomorrow, your advice was terrible. :Dimbecile
    • The bare wire is definitely the ground, and it's probably held back by a screw so you can't accidentally pull it out anyway.i_monk
    • you'll be installing what's called a "middle of run" outlet. you need to determine which is the hot in order to tie into it.Gnash
    • if you've never done this before ask someone who has to help. it's not as straightforward as it seemsGnash
    • this is a junction box, it has 14-2, 12-2, and 14-3 coming in. there may be an appliance connected so make sure what ever you're going to plug is within loadGnash
    • Turn off the breaker before you install anything, verify it is off with volt meter.eryx
    • Black is hot, red is return, the copper wire is the ground. Get an outlet it comes with instructions. MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE POWER FIRST.zarkonite
    • You have red, black and white. Likely a switched circuit meaning you can turn it on and off from 2 spots like a hallway light.ETM
    • Not likely, I should say possibly.ETM

    • "How Much Does It Cost To Install An Electrical Outlet? Most homeowners spend between $148 to $200 nationally."imbecile
    • I prefer to spend that money on damages, not labor :Dimbecile
    • find a friend or family member that knows what they're doing -- that box isn't a simple layout.Gnash
    • thanks allimbecile
    • Youtube is great for thisBennn

    • i forgot to mention. That box looks pretty dirty so you'll want to wash it with warm water first.kona
    • lol. ^ bastard!Gnash
    • Yo the red and black colors go well together like the Chicago Bulls, twist those together first and see what happens.fyoucher1
    • If you do it yourself and there is a fire, will your insurance cover it?drgs
    • ^certain electrical repairs are allowable if done by the homeowner (not tenant, though).Gnash
    • Pay a professional. Please.monoboy
    • Drilled through a live wire only yesterday. Escaped a jolt but still shit myself. Sparky coming tomorrow to fix it.monoboy
    • You can easily overloaded a circuit a cause a fire if you don't know what you're doing.monoboy
    • Our older house has a bunch of doubled up wires like this, it's a pain in the dick - someone above mentioned a double switch, that's been my experience.ben_
