We all understand the studio logic, and nobody in charge is going to take a gamble against $2b in revenue per film, except for Lucas himself maybe.

Looking back, he did at least try to incorporate a lot of novelty in his 2nd trilogy despite some mind-boggling choices.

Not that I care that much, I'm happy sticking with the original ones, but my dream for the new films would have been :

    - make Force Awaken an epic 3h30 film à la Lawrence of Arabia, standalone movie with the old cast and go nuts on Skywalker legacy and the Force and Rebellion vs Empire, stuff all that there and wrap that story up, nobody's gonna complain.

    - Rogue One makes sense, well done.

    - you want trilogies ? make a super dark one and another super light one (Solo ?) in this universe, where rebellion, empire, jedis etc are just a backdrop to new stories, it's just the setting, not what drives the story.

    - Different studios I know (not anymore tho) but Wall-E is a film that could absolutely have been made as a live action film within the Star Wars universe. It screams of SW droids!! Why not look at this huge universe as a setting for "smaller" stories that don't involve the whole galaxy ?

    - 12-15 years down the road, another epic 3h30 film, whoever's still around of the original cast à la Nimoy in JJ Abrams' Star Trek, bring back Jedis & Empire if needed, just rarely enough that we have time to miss their shenanigans

    • Ive made peace with the prequels myself. Alot of it's issues stem with the fact that Lucas is not great with dialogue and that he took a 20 year break from filmsince1979
    • Yes, technology also, they really went for something new. As a result, the difference in directing style is huge between ep1 and ep2, much more dynamic.spl33nidoru
