Sitting through Rogue One I asked myself "how many times can I watch the same situations, screens, lines and settings ?", even though its ending redeemed it and justified it.

Watched the Last Jedi last night and I think I'm done with the Star Wars universe.
I'll give Ron Howard's Solo a chance but I don't care for more Force talk and family business, Rebels vs Empire is starting to feel like a broken record, throughout the film I had to remind myself several times that this takes place after the original ones, that it's actually supposed to be a continuity, even had to remind myself that Luke and Leia are brothers and sisters....! Coming from a huge Star Wars fan as a kid (I was 5 when Empire came out and have vivid memories of my emotions regarding all things Return of the Jedi, from the new ships to the mood).

I don't have kids and I see how I'd certainly enjoy this more if I did and could see in them what was once my excitement. But I don't need more than 3 films to explore a universe through the same endless story, despite all the good that can be found here and there. I'd rather play Battlefront 2.

Highlight of the film for me : the X-Wing drifting for a U-turn in the opening sequence.

    • so you weren't even entertained?monospaced
    • There is plenty of good in Last Jedi, but it rarely come from the story.spl33nidoru
    • I'd say I was more stimulated than entertained. Unlike Force Awakens, I just couldn't get into it, just tired of the whole universe I think.spl33nidoru
    • I have 3 close friends of similar age to me who grew up with SW like me. All of them confirmed what you have said here. I haven't seen yet which is the longestfadein11
    • I have ever waited to watch a Star Wars film. The Force Awakens was a terrible film. And I had a feeling this may be worse. The "but they are kids films"fadein11
    • doesn't excuse bad script / lazy storytelling. Look how Pixar nailed the parent/kid together cinema experience. SW was the 1st franchise that did that with thefadein11
    • originals. Even my mum loved taking me to see the new SW way back because they had great scripts and characters you cared about.fadein11
    • I hope I like it but I have a feeling it is going to be a bad experience. Lame ass writing can never be fixed in post production.fadein11
    • Very true, fade. Our parents could enjoy it because they were discovering the story just like us. Here, I don't feel like I'm discovering shit.spl33nidoru
    • I will be watching with my kids after Christmas Day. I think they prefer the originals to the newer ones also tbh.
A lot of people say "but the originals had

    • corny scripts" but there is a big difference here, you didn't cringe at some bad writer trying to recreate those corny scripts for nostalgic reasons.fadein11
    • It's about originality (which is v.lacking these days and a lot of people don't seem bothered by it). The opening trilogy had originality in bucketloads.fadein11
    • We have lost the art of story telling, excitement & actually having heros. When was the last "hero" we actually had? Neo?mugwart
    • SW based so much on Jung, Disney bases is on manipulating the mind and audience for $.mugwart

    • Ironically Lucas is pretty much to blame for the state of things now though.fadein11
    • Yall have some weird idea that the original films were great. They were corny as fuck, had cheesy dialogue, muppets, shitty sword fights and all kinds of shit.monospaced
    • I love the films. Maybe try to lower the bar to the originals and you'll actually enjoy a fun film for once. Fucking hell man.monospaced
    • I haven't seen yet. And I loved Rogue One. Superb. Force Awakens was a 5/10 movie. Even my daughter finds it dull compared to others. Its not just about whineyfadein11
    • old men, its about originality. The originals were partly inspired by Sat morn serials like Flash Gordon. Along with a load of other influences that created anfadein11
    • original mythology and visual style of film. The new ones are just inspired by the old ones, nothing original as far as I can tell. Even the Prequels triedfadein11
    • something different regardless of their faults.fadein11
