^ I'm panicking about this. I'm 35 and cant even begin to buy a house.
That said my parents were cunts to save/make money and they were screwed over by the goverment etc years back.
- my parents bought their house for 100k 30 years ago and my dad retired from a shitty 60k a year job now that house is worth 700k fuck them.HijoDMaite
- good for them!monospaced
- and mugwart, why the hell didn't you start saving 20 years ago? just a couple hundred here and there into investments and regular 401k plans would have done itmonospaced
- cause I was too broke, my ex wife's visa took all my savings. My parents screwed me over. I'm only just built myself up into a poition when I can start make £$mugwart
- I was in poverty and I was a dick head! I have ADHD and struggle with money and finances. ... its a long story!mugwart
- that makes sense ... sorry to hearmonospaced
- mono - not everyone's been in a basic 9-5 for most of their working years.detritus
- @detritus, I know that ... even when I was 100% freelance, not knowing where my next check was coming from, I still savedmonospaced
- And it's not easy! I BARELY have enough to buy a house, and it's stressful for sure.monospaced
- London/UK fuck it the World is crazy anyway. Struggling with the point of it all right nowmugwart
- ok, so perhaps consider the shit that comes out of your mouth before spouting it? Unless, of course, your point is to highlight some sense of superiority?detritus
- In 1963 my dad bought a house in a nice neighbourhood on a waiters salary. Today you need professional double-income and a 300K downpayment to live thereGnash
- (ya, that was a bit insensitive, mono)Gnash
- he did have a point though!mugwart
- ^ Yes, but one that you -- and billions of others -- are painfully, well aware ofGnash
- it's fucking rough, that's for sure. my only 2cents would be...it aint a race. don't measure yourself to anyone. can't buy a house in a certain neighbourhood?..exador1
- don't sweat it...either save more til you can, or start looking at a little bit further away... and just salt those pennies away etc...exador1
- when my wife and i got married, we spent the 1st 3-4 years saving every damn penny...eventually came up with 40kexador1
- which was enough at the time to buy a place in the burbs etc...exador1
- my older brother still rents...no crime in that either....exador1
- best thing to do would be to get a financial advisor and come up with a workable plan and time-table etc...it CAN be done dude!exador1
- I understand that it might have come off as insensitive, that's why I immediately wrote "makes sense ... sorry to hear"monospaced
- In no way was I trying to highlight a sense of superiority. That's why I wrote, "it's not easy! I BARELY have enough..."monospaced
- exador makes great points ... you CAN start saving aggressively and make it happen. Also consider more affordable cities for the long-term, if that's an option.monospaced
- another thing to consider is that a home purchase is a lot easier with a partner's second income, if that's in the cards :)monospaced
- and it's not too late, mug. at 35 you have time to get your shit in order.Gnash
- Don't try a figure it all out yourself, find an expert and heed their advice. make a plan and stick to itGnash
- the "future" is the achilles heel of all ADHDrs - get help with it. you'll be okGnash
- nar thanks guys! If I ever get a place the tofu burgers are on me ;-)mugwart
- I'll be buying a house 1 year from now, in New York. It took me a decade to save for this. If I moved to certain cities in, say, Texas, I could buy cash tomorromonospaced
- Point is, the cost of living in your area might be insanely inflated. You could have an amazing house in another city, if you're willing to move for it.monospaced
- Life’s a bitch and then you die, enjoy it while you can. Kill yourself and save every penny for what? So they can fucking bury you with it?_niko
- If you have kids and a family, forget about what I just said lol._niko
- LOL niko!OBBTKN
