I get that parents who circumcise their baby don't usually do it to get off sexually (I assume most get off socially by conforming), but we are talking about a sexual organ with no consent given, so I think it at least borderlines sexual assault even if it is an indirect, assault by proxy, by a doctor who swore to do no harm.

There are much worse types of sexual assault, but still.. Also, this type will have physical effects for life (some claim psychological trauma too).

    Sexual assault according to Wikipedia:
Sexual assault is a sexual act in which a person is coerced or physically forced to engage against their will, or non-consensual sexual touching of a person. Sexual assault is a form of sexual violence, and it includes rape (such as forced vaginal, anal or oral penetration or drug facilitated sexual assault), groping, child sexual abuse, or the torture of the person in a sexual manner.[1][2]

Random people saying infant circumcision is sexual assault:

BTW, one of the Jewish reasons is that it's done to make sex less enjoyable, same as female genital mutilation (in some cases):
"Maimonides (Moses ben Maimon "Rambam", CE 1135–1204), who apart from being a great Torah scholar was also a physician and philosopher, argued that circumcision serves as a common bodily sign to members of the same faith. He also asserted that the main purpose of the act is to repress sexual pleasure, with the strongest reason being that it is difficult for a woman to separate from an uncircumcised man with whom she has had sex.[90]"

Also, to women saying that medicine is sexist towards them, I assume medicine is interested more in money than sex or gender:
In 2011, circumcision was one of the most common procedures performed during hospital stays in the U.S. There were approximately 1.1 million hospitalizations with a circumcision, a rate of 36 stays per 10,000 population. This was a decrease of 16% from 1997, when there was a rate of 43 stays per 10,000 population. It was the second-most common procedure performed on patients under one year of age.[22]

I don't mean to be an asshole, so correct me if you think i'm wrong (I don't assume to know it all), but I think you should avoid doing this to your babies. It's irreversible and usually unnecessary. If you already did it, you can apologize, we all make mistakes, this isn't the end of the world, you are probably a great parent and much worse mistakes could be made, explain your rationale and educate your kid not to do it to their future baby.

Some people try to restore their foreskin using different techniques, but I don't feel like getting into that

    • you put this much time and thought into your anti circumcision rant and start off by implying parents might do it for pleasure? gtfomonospaced
    • i was sexually assaulted by this postGnash
    • @Gnash #MeToo
@mono are the parents coerced, or is it something one must do?
      sofas
    • wow a lot of time and thought went into this. I think its abuse as well.mugwart
    • it's not sexual assault, it's just wrong. Same with FGM.Gnash
    • It is wrong. People will do anything to be the 'same' and 'conform'. It's terrible it's still a real discussion.formed
    • Holy 4 year old thread, Batman!Akagiyama
    • nobody circumcises to "get off sexually," and the idea that it's "wrong" is entirely just an opinionmonospaced
    • It is there for a reason.ApeRobot
    • The main argument in the U.S. when I was growing up seemed to be "it's normal." Now seems like more people question it which is good.yuekit
    • cicumcicsion is wrong for girls but for some reason it's okay for boys. both are idioticscarabin
    • ^ yup, it is "wrong". You are cutting away skin that's there for a reason.formed
    • In your opinion.monospaced
    • lol, right, I am also against tattooing/branding a newborn, although that can at least be partially reversed later one.formed
    • I'd venture to say that most, if not nearly all, circumcised men are glad they are.monospaced
    • Haha, well, they don't have much of a choice, now do they? And yet the numbers of circumcised kids is declining...so...formed
    • It's not because they don't have a choice. It's because they like being circumcised.monospaced
    • Dick cheese.severian
    • LOL, you can really see that this sofas has some hang ups. Too funny.severian
    • But yeah people are labelling way too many things sexual assault these days. It's just a weird (and totally unnecessary, IMO) religious custom.yuekit
    • I wouldn't do it to my kids but ultimately probably doesn't make much difference in their life one way or the other as long as it remains normal.yuekit
    • Now if you were the only person who was circumcised...then it would be really messed up :/yuekit
    • I got off from having my kids circumcised. So did my wife, the nurse, and the doctor who administered it. Lol the things people get worked up about.OP31
    • it's not a general practice in the UK but doesn't it have health benefits, i.e. not spreading the virus that can cause cervical cancer?fadein11
    • I always presumed it was so common in US on health and not just religious grounds. I may be talking out of my ringpiece though.fadein11
    • Easier hygiene and decreased risk of UTI and some STDs.OP31
    • lol @ thissince1979
    • your presumption is correct, fadein ... almost entirely for health reasonsmonospaced
    • Nonsense. The only time it's applicable is if you are having unprotected sex all the time, which is stupid. It's post-rationalization...formed
    • That might be true, but it's still the REASON it's so common in the US, and recommended by pediatric professionals.monospaced
    • aside from inane religious ritual, the ONLY reason it's still common is that dad wants son to look the same. period.Gnash
    • there's not one guy who promotes cutting that isn't cut himselfGnash
    • You're right Gnash, I can't wait to remove my son's tonsils and wisdom teeth too so we can be even more alike!OP31
    • ah, let the false equivalencies begin!Gnash
    • Just being sarcastic since you already stated a "fact" that its the ONLY reason.OP31
    • @Gnash, the medical community promotes it for health reasons, sorrymonospaced
    • many mothers prefer circumcised penises and also want their sons to resemble their fathers, and it's not just an inane religious practice at allmonospaced
    • chop away, then. mom's preferences are more important.Gnash
    • just saying that it's not as simple as you make it out to bemonospaced
    • it is, though. it's a non-therapeutic operation. it's about feels, not health.Gnash
    • that's one opinion, but if you ask doctors who focus in this area, many would disagree and say it's about health, and that IS the reason in the USAmonospaced
    • for example, I'm getting my son circumcised for health reasons, not for "the feels" as you so crudely and ignorantly put itmonospaced
    • just like millions and millions of other parents in the US have for decadesmonospaced
    • it's a religious / cultural practice in search of a “medical” justificationGnash
    • mutilating a 100% functioning and healthy organ for the feels. the risks of not cutting are negligible compared to the risks of the choppingGnash
    • studies showing some HIV transmission benefit in sub-saharan Africa have not been replicated in developed countriesGnash
    • the only relevant risk a UTI -- and even this restricted to the first year of life and is easily treated with antibioticsGnash
    • chopping without a valid medical indication needlessly exposes a healthy child to risk.Gnash
    • sorry Monospaced. If a mum wants it cut because her husband has had it done is a cycle of abuse. I think the world needs to address this and start to healmugwart
    • @mugwart, and you'd be 100% wrong, respectfullymonospaced
